'Manta ray pendant'

What's incuded:

  • Link to a digital pdf file for the tutorial
  • Materials list
  • Tools list
  • A guide to various weaves and stone setting techniques

In this tutorial, I will show you how create manta ray pendant. I will show you how to construct an outer frame with heavy-gauge wire which will be the main component for this design. You will then learn how to set a pear-shaped focal stone using a gallery setting, and how to add this setting to the frame. We will then create the inner detail and set accent stones before adding the finishing touches.

Materials required (not included):

Wire:
• 4 m (157.5”) of 0.3 mm (28 ga) wire
• 1 m (39.4”) of 0.4 mm (26 ga) wire
• 1 m (39.4”)  of 1.3 mm (16 ga) wire
• 1 m (39.4”)  of 0.8 mm (20 ga) square wire

Beads & gemstones:
•  1 x 18 mm pear gemstone
•  1 x 4 mm round cut faceted gemstone (I have used an peridot)
•  1 x 5 mm round cut faceted gemstone (I have used an peridot)

•  2 x 4 mm copper beads
•  1 x 5 mm copper beads

Tools required: (not included):
•  Chain-nose pliers
•  Flat-nose pliers
•  Needle-nose pliers
•  Round-nose pliers
•  Flush cutters
•  Steel block
•  Domed chasing hammer
•  Butane torch (Optional)
•  Ruler or measuring tape
•  Vernier caliper (Optional, but I find it very useful when doing symmetrical pieces)
•  Polishing materials to finish your piece
•  Jeweller’s file
•  600 grit sandpaper - any fine grit will work. The sand paper is used to get rid of the oxidisation if you are going to use a butane torch to soften the wire before bending (Optional)
