'Twisted' was in the making for two and half years, and I am super excited to finally be able to launch my first book on wire work.
When I started writing this book, I knew that it could not be a basic one, and that I wanted to include as much of the knowledge I had acquired over the years, as I possibly could, because I remembered how frustrated I was, back when I started my wire work journey, and how I wished for somwhere I could learn more in-depth weaving techniques, frame building, what materials to use, all of the do's and don'ts, but most of all, I wanted to learn how to set stones!
That sort of information was very hard to come by. I learnt a lot on my own, through trial and error, but I also had help from a small number of amazing individuals who freely shared their knowledge (Miles McDonald from 'The Art of Wire') being one, as the inventor and creator of the amazing 'Bow-tie' and 'Wire pave' stone settings.
The idea was to create a book that you could pick up as a reference at any stage in your wire work journey and find something useful for your projects on the go.
All the step-by-step instructions are carefully thought out and are accompanied by hundreds of high-quality, colour photographs. I also spent a lot of time meticulously illustrating the weaves shown in the weave library rather than photographig each step, to make understading the a patterns even easier.
Some topics covered in the book are:
- an in-depth section on tools and materials
- an extensive weave library covering many weaves
- an even more extensive section on how to set all types of gemstones. This varies from simple cabochon setting to a multitude of ways to capture tiny facet-cut accent and flat-back gems.
- a section on bails, coils and findings
- a section on finshing, oxidising and polishing
- tips, and tricks I have learnt over the years to make the process smoother
- ...and of course 15 beautiful projects for all skill levels, starting with some basic woven and hammered earrings and pendants, to your intricately designed gems-studded pendant, ring and bracelet. There is something there for everyone.
I hope you enjoy the book, and happy wrapping!
